Fear Conditioning in an Automated Home Cage (DualCage) Environment

چکیده
Fear conditioning is an important test in behavioral neuroscience to investigate the neural systems and molecular basis of various aspects of emotional learning across a wide range of species [1]. Dysfunction of the fear circuits is assumed to underlie mechanisms of affective disorders and is frequently investigated in rodent models. Traditional fear conditioning methods require frequent handling of the animals which compromises the accuracy with which fearrelated parameters such as the behavioral response and autonomic responses such as heart rate of the animal can be measured. We therefore developed a novel fully automated DualCage environment to explore the dynamics of fear conditioning during spontaneous/voluntary behavior of male C57BL/6J mice.

متن کاملEffects of Systemic Administration of Oxytocin on Contextual Fear Extinction in a Rat Model of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Introduction: One of the hallmark symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is the impaired extinction of traumatic memory. Single prolonged stress (SPS) has been suggested as an animal model of PTSD, since SPS rats exhibited the impaired fear extinction. Oxytocin (OXT) has been recently suggested as a potential pharmacotherapy for treatment of PTSD. In this study, using SPS rats we inve...
متن کاملNeonatal handling increases cardiovascular reactivity to contextual fear conditioning in borderline hypertensive rats (BHR).
Much research has demonstrated that events occurring in early life can have a profound influence on future biobehavioral responses to stressful and emotion provoking situations. The purpose of these studies was to determine the effects of an early environmental manipulation, handling (HAN) on cardiovascular (CV) reactivity, freezing behavior and corticosterone (CORT) responses to contextual fea...
متن کاملContextual conditioned fear blocks the induction but not the maintenance of lateral septal LTP in behaving mice.
High-frequency stimulation (HFS) of the fimbria induces long-term potentiation (LTP) in the lateral septum. This study was aimed at investigating the effect of contextual fear conditioning on septal LTP with the use of behaving C57 BL/6 mice as subjects. For the acquisition of contextual fear conditioning, animals were placed in a conditioning chamber, where they were subjected to footshocks (F...
متن کاملThere's no place like home: cage odours and place preference in subordinate CD-1 male mice.
Prior studies using mice have shown that scent marks are an important source of information and can cause behavioural changes in other individuals. Studies have also shown that scent marks in the environment can affect the outcome of social interactions between mice. We used conditioned place preference tests to investigate whether CD-1 male mice (Mus musculus) are reinforced by olfactory cues ...
